"Things Fall Apart" is a novel written by Chinua Achebe. It takes place in the Nigerian village of Umuofia in the late 1880s, before outsiders have arrived. People in the village respect Okonkwo for his leadership and many achievements. Even though people reveres Okonkwo, he must be punished for his accidental shooting of a young man from the tribe. So Okonkwo been send out of the clan for seven years. When he returns to the village, he finds that the tribe already divided by the influence of English encroachers who have interrupted the tribe' s daily life and change the tradition. At last he show his honor ship and combine the tribe back again. The book is not only focus on Okonkwo and his personal hardships but also on the Ibo culture and its disintegration. Chinua Achebe wroteThings Fall Apart not only for Nigerians, but also for people in his native country or other countries which has the similar distinguish with this tribe. He wanted to explain the truth about the effects of losing one's culture and about the people who live their from generation to generation. This book was not widely read by Nigerians and Africans when it was published in 1958. But when Nigeria became independent in 1960, Nigerian seen this book as a important part of their history.
