Saeed Malekpour, a Canadian citizen who has been living in Iran since early 2008, has been sentenced to death by the Iranian government. Malekpour has been accused of contributing to a pornography website (pornography is a crime in Iran) since 2008 but has openly admitted his contribution to the website two weeks ago. He has since been on trial and the Iranian court confirmed his offense to be punishable by death on the 17th of January.
Maryam Nayeb Yazdi, a human rights activist in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, had this to say about the situation before the final decision:
"Saeed is in imminent danger of execution. He has never been provided with a fair trial at any point during this horrific and twisted ordeal."
