An agreement was made for a 1 million dollar bail-to-freedom deal for the two hikers yesterday and they were released and sent on a private jet back to an Oman airport where they reunited with their families. They called this day "the best day of their lives".
The bail and all of the specifics of the deal made went through the Gulf State of Oman.
"Oman — ruled by a lute-playing sultan — has close relations with Tehran and Washington and has acted as mediator in the releases and the apparent transfer of the bail money because of U.S. economic sanctions on Iran."

"Today can only be described as the best day of our lives," said a statement from their families. "We have waited for nearly 26 months for this moment and the joy and relief we feel at Shane and Josh's long-awaited freedom knows no bounds."
