An article about Okonkwo

Okonkwo is the main character in “Things Fall apart “, written by Chinua Achebe. He is an important man in his clan. He has titles, three wives and children. He also is a successful farmer who doesn’t have to fear a famine. In fact, he doesn’t fear anything, except being like his father. His father, Unoka , was a big failure in the eyes of Okonkwo. He was not a good farmer, and could rarely feed his family. He was social, he showed his feelings. For Okonwo, showing his feelings expresses weakness. Okonkwo does his best to show that he has nothing in common with his father. He doesn’t show any of his thoughts or feelings to other people, not even to his wives or children. For example, he loves his children. He cares about them. He wants his son to become as successful as he is and he worries about Ezinma, when she is sick. But thinking that it would be weak to show his love, he treats everyone with a strict hand. He beats his wives and children for doing wrong, and he never praises them for doing good. Okonkwo sees his father as a failure and therefore behaves in the opposite way. He doesn’t want to do the same faults.
